Bouncing Back from a Binge

Setbacks are set-ups for comebacks. Never forget this. Use your mistakes to propel yourself forward. Your own failures are the greatest teacher you will ever have. They teach you way more about yourself than your accomplishments ever will.

Embrace mistakes. Use them to fuel your growth. One step backwards, 10 steps forwards. This is but just one isolated incident. You have been doing amazing! Keep up the great work!

So what do you do now?

Take note of what went wrong. What was the circumstance that caused the binge? What were you feeling at the time? What time of day was it? Which foods did you binge on? What were you thinking in the moment? Really delve deep into the situation and determine what caused you to overeat. Only when you can be truly honest about not only the environmental circumstances that allowed for the binge to happen, along with the deeper emotional issues, can you find a solution that not only makes it easier for you to refrain from binging, but actually eliminates the core issue entirely.

Once you've reflected in an objective way, DROP IT and focus on what you will do NOW.

Being SOLUTIONS-FOCUSSED will put the emphasis on what you CAN do and reduce your feelings of SELF DEPRECATION (which can lead to a self-sabotaging cycle of restricting and binging!). Focus not on what YOU DID WRONG but how you can FIX IT. How will you make your meals smaller today in order to reduce overall calories (a better idea than skipping meals). How will you add more cardio to offset the overeating? What will you do to ensure you will eat better tomorrow? (e.g., plan and prepare your meals in advance or remove tempting foods from the house).

Remember that one day of overeating will not kill you. It will make the distance between you and your ideal weight seem a bit further, but remember that in the end if you want the body of your dreams for life, you are going to be in it for life! You have plenty of time to reach your destination. You want to do it right, and the more you learn, the better.  So embrace the fact that your mistakes will make it easier for you in the future to know your own personal boundaries and shortcomings so you can manage them and plan for them in advance.

Refuse to feel crummy. Instead choose today to live as if you were already at your ideal weight and forget about how far you still have to go or how much further that binge will have taken you. Choose to be happy. Choose to love yourself. And choose to move on.

Nothing can change the past. But you can change your future.

Love you all!

Amanda
