How to Feel Okay After a Loss

People are just sparks that light your flame.

When you lose a relationship you are not losing yourself. That is what we fear. But you never have to fear or have a sense of loss. Those memories will always be there. Those feelings they gave you were already inside you, and they are yours.

You have lost nothing.

In fact, now the future is more open for you to pursue.

And you feel even more whole now, because you know that even when they are gone, you will always have yourself.

You will cry. Scream. Bleed. You will feel like you’re going to break down. Like the walls are caving in. Like you’re all alone. Like no one is there to save you. That you can’t do this anymore. Searching, crawling, yearning, reaching, gasping for air through choked tears...but no one’s there. This will happen. You will hurt. But you will be okay. This is a guarantee. You will wipe away the tears and you will start to smile. You will feel yourself laugh again, right from your belly. You will feel a sense of pride. For yourself. For what you’ve overcome. You will never be completely unharmed again, but your scars give you faith. Your scars show your courage. Your scars show your strength.

Never fear loss because nothing in this world is permanent, but you can never lose yourself. And in the end, that is all we really have.
